I recently bought a 1995 23 foot Neptune W/A that i plan on towing with my 2008 Tundra with a 5.7L V8. The only specs a could find on the boat said it weighed roughly3800 lbs dry. I'm guessing a trailer and full load would add about 3000 lbs or so. I don't have a towing package but from the best I can tell thats under my Tundra's towing capacity. Any thoughts on wether I shoul beef up my towing capabilities or if I'll be ok with what I have? I was also wondering if I should get some kind of transmission cooler... Thanks for the help everyone

I've got the same truck... you'll be fine pulling up to 10,000 lbs with it. No modifications are needed, the Tundra comes with a tranny heater and cooler from the factory. ;)

Should be detailed information in your owners manual on the specific trucks towing capacity.
It can vary based on engine, 2wd vs 4wd, etc......
You don't have a tow package, and that's where you usually get what you need to reach the trucks maximum. Factory tow packages typically include receiver hitch and wiring, tranny cooler, higher cap battery, etc....... If your vehicle doesn't have that then it's not a bad idea to install your own tranny cooler.
They are not very expensive. Are you installing a hitch, or where will you attach?

I have an aftermarket Reese hitch thats rated with two different tounge weights and two different max weights. The first is under the title "Weight Carrying" the max gross trailer weight is 6000lbs with a tounge weight of 600lbs. The second catagory title is "Weight Distribution" and the max gross trailer weight is 8000lbs with a tounge rate of 800lbs. I'm confused on which one to go by. I guess I have already have a tranny cooler given what the first poster says. I've also seen the transmission's separtate radiator in the engnine compartment so I think I'm good there ( I hope). I looked in my manual and the towing capacity for my model is 8400lbs and a GCWR of 10400lbs. It sounds like I'll be really close to the maximum limit.

You go by weight carrying unless you are using a weight distributing hitch.

If you don't know what that is, then look here:

You're well below the truck's limit, but that hitch won't cut it unless you go with a weight distributing setup if the weights you listed in your first post are right.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the info. I was hoping I wouldn't have to make any mods to my truck but i guess it could be worse than having to buy a new hitch.
