2007 F 250 TXR Over-Heating

Trouble Shooting?????

engine runs fine at speed (sometimes) - when idling the engine over-heat buzzer sounds after a few minutes ...

I turn the engine off - and start it up again with not problem - sometimes it comes right back on - sometimes it takes a while .....

Can't figure out????? The Problem is the boat is on a family island in the Bahamas - NO Shop around .....

for trouble shooting ... would one start with a thermostat .... or what else you would take if you where going????

Any other ideas or suggestions?????

Low water pressure at idle. Replace water pump.

Water pump kit, stat, and PRV and grommet is what I would take with me.
Check out/ clean the cooling passages the best you can while you have the covers open.
My guess is you are not able to flush with fresh water after running in salt water and probably have some build up

I see this a lot in the island boats where fresh water is at a premium. Being its cooling fine above an idle, I doubt if its more than a water pump. Be very careful removing any bolts on the engine since they have a habit of breaking off in that tropical paradise. I seen many an outboard laying on the bottom of the lagoons where owners just kick them off and put another one on.

The boat is in the water two to three weeks at a time. I do flush the engine(s) with fresh water every time the boat comes out of the water ....

re: water pump .... when running with no problem ... the water flow is the same as the other engine????

I will take all the suggested parts ... and start, i guess, with the thermostat???

I also can only assume the tools needed will be metric as far as sockets/wrenches ...

I have ordered the Service Manual for some help ....

PRV stuck open or water pump not pumping like it should at low RPM is more likely than stat
