I'm looking at a 2006 Johnson 150 to replace my 1998 Evinrude 150 that needs major engine work. I just bought the boat so I dont know a heck of a lot about outboards(I've always owned and still own inboard 454's). I've read nothing but bad things about the VRO pumps. Does a 2006 still use the VRO pump? If so, were the problems worked out by then? If the pump goes, is it instant death for the engine and is there an alarm that signal failure of the pump?
