I'm about to have kittens here. Hope someone can help me. I'm about to buy a new 2008 Q4 SF 18 foot 1 inch boat with a 190 hp engine. Now I did a bit of research on the Q4 before deciding to make the purchase and all the information I could gather showed that the Q4 was a 19 foot 5 inch boat. Well, the dealership says it's an 18 foot 1 inch boat and gives me a brochure to prove it. Ok, not a deal breaker. I get home and I look at the tahoe website AGAIN and sure enough, 18 foot 1 inch with a max engine of 135 hp...... Now wait a minute, the boat I'm getting is over powered???
I'm starting to feel like I'm in the twilight zone and the specs of the boat have changed over night. Places I looked at before that were saying the q4 was a 19 foot boat are now saying it's an 18 foot boat. A little more research shows that the Q4 USED to be a 19 foot boat with a max engine of 190 hp, but currently it's an 18 foot boat with a max engine of 135 hp.

This shows a 2004 q4 as 19 foot with 190 hp.

The dealership is telling me that Tahoe never made a 19 foot Q4 and the only change was the size of the engine to 135 hp to make the boat more affordable. Seems like Tahoe would want to offer both options so they could sell more boats.

I understand that boat manufactures change specs from time to time. I speculate that they may have discovered problems with the 19 foot 190hp design and decided to shorten the boat by 16 inches. I further speculate They later discovered that didn't correct the problem and decided to lower the the engine to 135 hp. It seems to me like I'm getting a boat that is between these changes. What I would really like to know is why was the length and engine changes deemed necessary? Am I making a mistake in getting an 18 foot boat with the larger engine? Any information on this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
This is my first boat.

Can anyone either confirm or deny a specifications change in the length and horse power of the Tahoe Q4 boats? I would like to hear from owners of the Q4.

Thanks

i have a 05 q4 sf and as far as i know it is 19.5 feet...i never measured it. mine is also 220 horse 4.3 v6... my understanding is that the only dif between the 190 hp and the 220 hp is fuel injection vs. carbs. maybe they are not including the swim platform in the shorter measurement?

Re: 2004 - 2009 Tahoe Q4 length / engine ????

Thanks for the reply. I ended up calling up Tahoe and they confirmed that they made a length and engine change in the Q4. The Customer Service Representative for Tahoe couldn't tell me the exact reasons for the change. Everything that they said started off with "Maybe they" or "I guess that". This tells me that either the customer service rep actually didn't know the reasons (product) for the changes (unlikely) or they were hiding a company secret. This also confirmed without a doubt that the tahoe dealership was lying to me. Considering the above in conjunction with the large number of complaints I've been seeing in Tahoe fourms elsewhere I decided to forfit my deposit on the boat and back out of the purchase. Losing the deposit would cost me far less than the repairs I would likely have to pay for in this boat.

Now I'm back to square one in my search for a boat that will allow me to explore the small river waterways and still let me get out onto the gulf a little bit. I would like something that would let me explore the anclote river and see how far I can go, and also let me take the intercoastal from Clearwater florida to Tampa bay.

I have a 2006 Tahoe Q4 and it is 19' 4". When I purchased the boat I had the option of the 135 4cyl engine, 4.3 190hp or the 4.3 220 hp. Sometime around 2009 Tahoe came out with the Q5 and it was 19' 4" and only available with a 4.3 engine. That same year the Q4 changed to 18' 4" and it was only available with the 4 cyl.

ABT 2007 the V6 4.3 option was dropped, the aft seating was moved back to accomidate more cockpit space. Fore runner of the Q4 was a Q3 which was actually a shorter version of the Q4 .

I have a 2007 Q4 which is 19.5 feet. (4.3 V6)

I understand that the 2008 Q4's were reduced to 18.5 feet and only available with 135 BHP 4 cylinder.

The 2008 Q5 is essentially the old longer Q4 whith the option of 4.3 V6.

Have I made things worse?

I have a 2007 Q4 with the 135 hp 3.0. And at this point I'm confused on length. Lol. How do they take the measurement anyway ?

P.s. what's a good prop ? Dont think mine is original but idk. It's a 3 blade 14.25x21
