1st in water: Motor ran 4min at 3/4 throttle fine- then started skipping and sputtering and bogged down gurgling etc. - had to tow back-

-replaced fuel filter (it had all kind of debris and some water in it - drained some of fuel off bottom- replaced fuel line bulb

2nd in water: Motor ran 4min at 3/4 throttle fine- then started skipping and sputtering and bogged down gurgling etc. - was able to make it back to dock under 2000rpm still some sputtering and gurgling-

-filtered all fuel in tank 2x with Mr. Funnel- fuel was crystal clear after- replaced the fuel line bulb and filter again-

3rd in water: wouldn't get past 2000rpm w/o major gurgling and sputtering, would idle but would cut off it you didn't maneuver the throttle to keep it alive-

Any ideas thoughts? I want to change the filter that is "on" the engine but don't have any instructions or manual (don't have owners manual) any advice or direction on that would be appreciated- I think that is the most likely next option- I have a ticket working for a service tech but its 6weeks away so i have some time to tinker-

my sister put the boat up, not knowing about ethanol, FULL of ethanol fuel (sat for 6-7months)- please don't start the lectures regarding that- I know- she didn't- but just for diagnostic purposes do I mention it-

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/direction-

The fuel filter on the engine is on the port side near the front. Remove the lower engine cover and unscrew the filter. That one has a water sensor that extends down into the filter so be careful to pull the filter straight down until the sensor clears the housing. Since that one has a water sensor, I would have expected that you would have gotten a CE light from water in that filter if that was indeed the cause. It might just be plugged up. Filter is #187789.

Might be time for a fuel pressure test. Your pressure pump (which officially is not serviceable) might need some attention. There are even filter screens inside the injectors that might have 'corroded'.

After you replaced the fuel bulb, does it remain hard after running the motor or do you have to keep pumping it? What happens if the motor starts stuttering as you describe and you pump the bulb?
