just got boat back from being serviced. carbs were removed and link and sync performed. i think the oil pump link arm is in the wrong position based on the manuals that i have. was returned with ball link at 6:00 postion when it is supposed to be at 9:00. my main concern and question is if the engine had no oil being injected to the fuel? what type of damage could have possibly been done in the 20 mins the boat was driven like that? mechanic insists it is in the correct position, but the index mark on the pump is lined up with the spring on the arm and not line on the arm.

Re: 2002 mecrury xr6 150 oil pump arm position

I just sold a 1991 XR4 EFI motor and the guy called me to say it was running like crap in the way of smoking..I had bought the boat and never tried it as I wanted to put another motor on it..He brought it back to me and when I looked at the throttle, the Merc mechanic who owned the boat had put the rod back on the oil pump wrong..it went the opposite way...What this did was make the oil pump go fuel rich all the time so it didn';t harm the motor..every book shows the line that needs to line up on the oil pump and the cam. It needs to rotate clockwise and in order to get the lines to line up you shorten or length the eye on the rod...a simple 5 minute fix....maybe some can post a pic of the rod, cam and lines...
