Hello, I just purchased a 2002 Four Winns 240 and the trim tilt gauge and the depth finder are not working. Are these fairly common problems with this type of boat and where do I start trying to get them operational on my own.

Thanks in advance for any advice or comments....

When asking a question it's always best to let folks know just what your talking about. What motor and what depth gauge

It's normal for time to cause trim gauge to stop working on all boats. In most cases it's the puck on the starboard gimbal ring.

As for the depth finder, most likely same thing

Sorry about not identifying the motor/outdrive.....this boat has a Volvo 5.7 Penta outdrive. The depth meter and the trim/tilt gauge are on the dashboard instrument cluster. The instrument cluster seems to be all original from 2002.

I'll first check out fuses and wire connections to try to fix these two problems. I notice there is a puck through the hull for the depth meter. Are these pucks difficult to replace if I would need to replace it or would it be better to buy a GPS/Fishfinder and use that for accurate depth information.

As for the trim/tilt gauge not working, the pointer points to the trailer position but does not move or even jump when the ignition turns on. Any help with these annoying problems would be most helpful.

Again, thanks in advance for the advice and recommendations.....

The sender is on the drive, and most likely same as Merc needs replaced

The depth sounders seem to always change and next to none of them work with other manufactures, then you have the issue that replacements are no longer made. In most cases just need to get another

The gauge can probably be repaired if you can live without it for a while. There should be a manufacturer listed either on the face or the back of the unit. It probably has the Four Winns logo embossed on the face correct?

If you're not concerned with the logo remaining, replacing may be cheaper.
