I'm seeing prices all over the place for the bellows kit depending on the manufacturer. Should I only be using parts from mercury?

No. The bellows kit for a Merc is totally diferent from OMC. As is various other parts such as the water pump. You can find many of the parts right here on iboats. I suggest you pick up an OMC shop manuel for your setup. Notice i said OMC shop manuel. The Seloc & Clymer aftermarket manuels make good knee pads & even that's stretching it.

I think he means like Sierra parts, or OEM.. His boat is a 2001 so it would be impossible for it to have an OMC on it.. He's got a Mercruiser

Sierra parts are generally fine. But a bellows job is pretty horrible. I'd spend the extra on Mercury parts, sometimes labeled Quicksilver marine

Sorry, brain fart. I said mercury instead of mercruiser. In my head I was thinking merc.

$420CDN for the quicksilver kit, $260CDN for the Sierra one. Also see a bunch from China for anywhere from $100-130CDN.

Quoted $1500 & $2000 from 2 local marinas to do the job. Watched lots of youtube videos, I think I can do it.

For that kind of money, do people really do this to their boat every 2 years?

No. Bellows can last much longer. I am in year 8 and I have only had to replace them once.

But use Mercruiser or Quicksilver parts for this job.
