2001 250 OX66 (unable to drop lower unit)

I am not able to drop the lower unit to service the water pump. The dirve shaft seems to be stuck in the power head! Any thoughts? Anyone ever had this problem?

Have you tried to turn the engine (crank shaft)?

Yes, all bolts removed, have 1/16 inch between the lower and mid case, have tried to seaperate with 2x4 and hammer, have run the engine with two bolts in loosly.

You have absolutely all bolts removed? The same thing happened to me, except I released 5-min later that I had forgot one bolt hiding.

you should have removed the trim tab and 8 bolts,
if you have not removed the 8 10mm bolts it wont come off, its very very rare to see the shaft stick on a yamaha.

Yes all bolts removed. PS this is a twin install rig, the Stb. engine came apart like a hot knife through butter.

Try tapered building wood shims at the separatation point ,and put a rope on the cavitation plate with a come-a-long and rap on it with a rubber mallet.
