2000 Johnson 150 water pump shift rod

I changed water pump on my Johnson and having trouble getting shift rod lined up. gearcase is currently in forward. Is this where you trial and error the throttle until it lines up? thanks for any help. Brian Conlin

Reverse may provide more clearance. the air may turn a bit blue for a while but you will get it.
having a helper is a good idea as well.

Thanks, once my wife got home and was able to help me I figured it out. Just like always making it harder than it was.
