What exactly are you hoping to find on a diagram of a cable?

A steering cable is a steering cable, attaches on both ends, does not come apart, is not serviceable.
If no good, it gets replaced.

I meant I needed a diagram to see if I could easily disassemble it myself. Is it hard to do? Should I wait til my husband gets home to help or could I do it myself? The steering is sooooo stiff when turning in either direction that I can barely get it to move. I assume that replacing the steering cable would fix this. Am I right?

Ok.
I doubt you will find a diagram of the boat, showing any specifics related to the steering cable.

You will need to access the steering unit behind the dash to disconnect the cable.
Also disconnect from the linkage in the motor well.

Then, with the cable disconnected, test the helm to make sure it turns freely.

Test the linkage at the other end also, to make sure it moves freely.

If they both move freely, then check the cable.

If the cable is bad, determine type and length. Order a new one. Will likely cost $160-$225.

You will need to leave the old cable in the boat, and use it to pull the new cable through the hull.

It is not overly difficult, but there are plenty of opportunities to screw it up.
Similar to changing your brakes, only greasier and not so straight forward.

In my opinion, this is a job that I would rather pay someone to do.

On a bayliner it is not actually that bad to change since you can reach in and touch it for the entire path. Before I started ripping anything apart, I would lube the steering cable as directed in the owners manual - you are doing that every year or so right?

Look at page 1B-5 for grease lube locations
