Trying to test the overheat and oil alarm on this motor....anyone remember the procedure? I have a factor manual on the way.

I am not familiar with your exact motor, but, normally you ground the temp sensor on the cylinder head and the alarm should sound, with the ign key on. A lot of motors will limit the speed of the engine, when the alarm sounds. Some motors also have a light on the tacho for overheat.

For low oil, ground the level sensor on the oil reservoir and listen for sound, and possible light on tacho.

Yeah, did that and nothing. Overheat has two wires, brown and a white wire.
the white wire is for the quickstart (auto-advance at startup like a car) so you arent fiddling with the throttle and causing piston damage by revving it to the moon like so many operators did and still do. you do not ground the temp sender wire! you ground the tan wire that plugs into the temp sender and flick the key to ON position! if it doesnt sound, replace or repair horn.

I know you ground the tan wire....grounding the sensor would do nothing. I agree though not familiar with the quick start or does the key have to go on after? I already had the key on. It couldn't possibly matter. Horn goes off on test when you turn the key as it's supposed to.

I never over rev...at least mostly!

With quick start you don't have to raise the warm up throttle?

Anyhow, thanks for letting me know.

With QuickStart you do not need to advance the throttle when cold starting. The motor should start and run a bit rough until it warms up. Use choke as normal. Then it should run as smooth as normal. Quickstart automatically cuts off if revs go over 1200, so if you use the cold start lever, there is no issue.

You should track down your warning horn. Some of those motors have a "System Check" Tacho and some have a separate alarm module. If you need to replace it or don't have it, I recommend the System Check Tach.

Faria and Teleflex make them. They have 4 lights, however, I think your motor only has 3 alarms (overheat, low oil, no oil). Only the V6 had the 4th alarm for fuel restriction (called system check on the tach).

yep as chris said its automatic . it will say in advanced timing about 10 degrees or so until the temp sender hits around 96f. then it shuts off. it will also activate for 3-5 seconds on every startup when warm. plain as day if you have it or not. you would destroy your gearcase in short order if you tried to shift with the quickstart activated!

Google not allowing me to download.....but motor is good. 5500 RPMs with 3 in the boat and trimmed up. All warning horns working and motor is performing perfectly. It all came back to me once I dug into it more.

Working on this beautiful GT 100 now.

Thanks.

Googles mad at me because it wants some clams! (Money)

Storage is gone but it finally downloaded when I cleared space but I couldn't find it. I'll try the computer later and see if that works better than the Motorola.

I'll pm you on the GT....
