I wouldn't mind getting a little more power out of my 470 does anyone have any suggestions? The engine runs great so I don't want to bore it bigger, but i would consider a new cam or bolt on parts.

Thanks

I have been told that a different head, called a Dove II, will give you 250hp out of the box.... Just what I was told by a guy who raced them....

If you google "470 HAMB" it takes you to a car forum where a few people have managed to build up and get some decent HP out of their 470's for race cars and various other projects.

Whether or not you can do what they have done while keeping your 470 suitable for marine use, or without spending a truckload of money, is a whole 'nother question....

The factory 4 bbl carb + manifold, and maybe a set of roller rockers is about as far as I would go. Even thats going to be a good chunk of change for whats going to net another 20-30 ponies at most.

At the end of the day (and much lighter pockets) what is 30 horses going to give you? I went from a 180hp engine (4.3LX) to a 220hp engine (4.3MPI) and achieved 4 knots more.... (I didn't do the change for more speed, or I'd have been well p**ed off!)

The factory 4bbl carby also uses a different EXHAUST manifold to get a whole 18hp more...
