Looking for ideas for extended family vacation. Tought about getting a local hotel with pool and having things catered, but need something less stressful and more all inclusive. Thinking of before this Christmas and maybe a cruise or USA site.

Could try the Bahamas or the like, but then need passports and we know how long that can take. We have ours but kids and grand kids don't

There is always the people trap operated by a mouse (on either coast)

Swimming with sharks on Florida's Atlantic coast, then a cruise out of Miami

Fishing and snorkeling in the keys

Door County Wisconsin for a beautiful fall, some winery tours, hiking, etc

If you want a Caribbean trip, check cheapcaribbean.com

Have been unable for years to get the kids/G kids and now GG kids together. Starting to run short on time. Would like to find something that can draw them in, spend 20K or so to get them all together at least once.

If I can get it done once should be easier maybe the next time

Never wanted to do a cruise, but would be easy enough to get them together so they can't get away o_O

@southkogs did a group trip to the FL panhandle coast a few years ago.
We did! I don't think the house we stayed at would hold 20 adults, but might handle 20 if a bunch were kids. But it was on Keeywadin Island: fantastic week on the Gulf Beach and kinda' off the grid. (Think I can even link you to the exact rental if I looked)

Couple of good resorts in the Smokey Mountains too. Full condos with waterparks inside. Wisconsin Dells was pretty fun too; same kinda' setup.

We also did a big trip a few years back to Flagstaff. Got a condo there, and went around to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and several other sites. More driving than I typically like, but the views were amazing.

A's and K's are probably 50% each.
My thought would like a place that kids could runaround doing kids stuff and adults the other. Keep in mind I have a couple which are under 2 yrs and one (2nd Great G kid) arrives in October :D

Visit the website Florida on a tank full.

Rent an RV. Do a bunch of stops. Some for kids, some for adults

You'd have to look closely at the particular house we stayed at: but, it had ways to handle large meals, outside games and toys, table tennis and it's own beach. They provided beach toys and equipment: kayaks, SUP, chairs, even some fishing gear.

Lemme know if you want the link. I'll dig it up and PM it to you.

There are lot’s of houses for weekly rent that will handle 20 people, you just need to figure out what you want to do (beach, mountains, lake/river, casino, amusement park, etc.). Figure out the location and then find the right house/place to rent.

Looking more of the all inclusive kind of thing so no one has to cook. I know about the vacation home rental I own one. Just trying to figure out a way to get family to want to go somewhere they haven't been, bribe kind of thing.

Thought about renting hotel room at a hotel with pool and such, but then this idea came across my pea brain

Another option - with more available in the "no one has to cook" category: Gaylord Opryland. You can literally spend a week there, and never have to leave the building. And, there is a ton more to do within a 30 minute drive.

We just got back from ours. (5) cabins rented, (4) boats, (1) jetski all on a local lake. We share meals - each cabin gets a night and cooks for the lot. Local winery less than 1 mile away keeps the spirits flowing - pun intended.

Get a large vacation house and hire Redneck Joe to cook for all of you while on vaca! His stuff looks mighty good!
:p:ROFLMAO:
Cooking for 20 for a week would be a tough one. I've done big one off for up to 75 folks and that left me drained.

I've looked at the train rides in the PNW but for you might be too long and grandkids in a small tube shaped vessel for more than a couple hours is .... we'll don't want to give you nightmares so I'll stop.

the opryland (or similar) would work however thinking on the incremental costs of food which in a tourist trap like that (and nashville in general) will add up on top of room cost. the cruise being all inclusive may be the best bet unless you can find one in the US mainland. another thing to consider is the cost of getting to your chosen place. there again a cruise out of FL usually has some good deals just to get you to the port. Speaking of good deals, make sure if flying you call the airline to get a group discount. a cruise also usually does not require passport for day trips.

a few years back AC and i did a trip to jamacia. if you have ever seen Christmas with the Cranks where they try to skip Christmas... well we succeeded in skipping thanksgiving. we travelled on thanksgiving day and the bonus there was the fare on that day was stupid cheap and the airports stupid empty. The return fare and airport volume was more but still light as so many people had just travelled for the holiday. Mostly business travellers (we can spot each other) so things went more smoothly thru security, boarding, etc. we did an all inclusive Hilton property. I even bucked up for the all you can drink and a persona butler. the butler was fun. you get a walkie talkie and a channel and boom.... service - even having reserved spots on the private (and small) beach. They had put in rock barriers to keep that beach's water nice and calm for snorkeling. fun story on the all you can drink. they were only allowed to bring 6 beers per person in a trip, kinda like olive garden on breadsticks i guess. The good stuff (rum vodka and whiskey) were in something like an inverted soap dispenser - just walk up and fill your glass. after the first couple days we got some slight pushback from our butlers (we had three to cover the 24 hours) about how much we were going thru to which i slightly more strongly pushed back to him. we won.

so that last part was to circle back to a cruise. I really think that is your best option for ease, food and passport issue which you are right just took my wife about 5 months to get her renewal - but if you (flight) travel on thanksgiving day the cost should be way lower. Depending on the cruise departure timing, for 20 people you can get a discount on a hotel for a day or two if needed. Look for well reviewed local hotels - they will negotiate better especially if you tell them you won't need your room serviced during the couple days you are there. Then groups go out and do things daytime, everyone meets for supper - again calling to get group discounts where you've decided to eat. Then grab your cruise and go. if everyone played nice at the motel, they will be happy to store everyone again for a night if needed on return. All this and you've had a family thanksgiving that not many will forget.

lots o words there but at least you didn't have to pay for any of them. Most importantly please get those really dorky family vacation tshirts to wear for the whole trip.

Embrace the your Griswald....

Cruise . . . I recommend Disney or Royal Caribbean.

AirBnB - Could rent a (big) place (probably USA) and do more 'home-based' stuff.

All-inclusive resort - number of rooms as needed. We did that right before Covid ( New Years 2019/20).
