20 HP Mariner - Where is the serial number?

Where is the serial number on a 20 hp Mariner (need serial to determine year)? The stop buttom on tiller handle does not function, black wire coming out of the handle has been cut. Where can I find a diagram to be able to troubleshoot this problem? I have only recently purchased this motor.

On the portside to the rear and above the exhaust cover there is a soft plug with the serial number stamped in it.

The kill switch was probably disconnected because it's shorting out the ign. Heres a wiring diagram
