Looking to buy a new remote oil tank for a new to me 2001 130 hp v4 yamaha. Anyone know what the primer squeeze ball is for? Is it in case the pump dies in the remote tank? Thanks

I don't know why I am answering this but...

It is to get Oil to the Pump in the first Place

Is the new Tank specified for your engine?
The System on the 1985 may have been different.
So you have access to Yamaha's Installation Instructions for the Engine?
Primer Bulbs are designed to allow Flow through them in One Direction, and they were Initially Designed for the Higher Flow Rates of Gasoline. This Bulb isn't going to be any issue for the amount of Oil flowing.

That is a fuel hose and primer ball that is included with the oil tank kit.

The electric oil pump is gravity fed by the tank and then pumps oil on to the main oil tank on the motor.

No primer bulb is used in the supply line from the remote tank to the main tank.
