1ST Start in 30 years

What should I do to a 1957 35hp Evinrude Lark outbourd that has'nt been started in 30 years. Garage stored with minimal hours, to get it ready for summer?

First, make sure you remove plugs and get some oil into the cylinders before cranking her over.

Second, you need to probably plan on going through the carbs.

Third, Clean up and gap plugs and points.

Fourth, check compression and spark quality to determine next steps.

Fifth, replace all fuel lines with ethanol resistant lines or only use marine grade fuel.

Sixth, replace the water pump impeller.

I would start by getting the factory service manual.
Change everything in the ignition, coils, points condensors etc
plugs , wires, fuel lines, water pump
rebuild carbs with carb kits and so on.

check compression first. im sure its good just we wanna make sure so u wont put all this money and the motor wont even run or run right

remove plugs, tilt motor all the way up, oil cylinders, set over nite, then turn flywheel by hand, make sure everything moves smoothly. now check compression, then you can proceed to start the motor.

try to do the oil thing the day before u check it because it can make readings go wack sometime. but u do want it to be oiled up nice. follow tashas instructions

Great old motor. Mine runs like a new motor. Pushes my pontoon at 19mph and is a great trolling motor for fishing.
