1999 Crestliner 2050 Sportfish transom raising

I have decided to replace the 20" transom on my 1999 sportfish 2050 with a 25 inch transom. Its time for a repower and i want to eliminate the only thing that has irritated me about this boat since it was new. It has a very deep center cutout in the transom to get down to 20". So much so that water is always washing into the boats motor well. I will also be going to a 4 stroke V6 to replace my 2 stroke v6. About 120 Lbs more weight so the extra freeboard is needed.

I also plan to use extruded fiberglass as the transom material. Has anyone done this and what advice do I want to take with me as I start this project.

Just like replacing a transom. You can't simply add material. You must remove the old transom wood and then build back at a higher height

As long as the well is self bailing shoukd not ve a problem. That extra 5" won't make that big a difference. An awful lot of work for little gain overall. Better to consider load balance, what weight can be removed from the back and moved forward. Can't believe how many mfgrs put heavy fuel tanks right at the back. Often load/ weight shift is the better way !
