1999 50hp Johnson 2 stroke won’t start

As discussed above, you need 3/8 inch spark. This is measured with an open air tester -- need to get one of these cheap devices at an auto parts store, if you don't have one in your tool box.

How did you test for spark?

Once you know for sure you have solid spark from a strong ignition, you can bypass the carb and spray some mix directly into the cylinders and see if it will pop.

I had somebody test spark and said it was good. Used a spark tester. Still cranking and does not start. When I pump the gas bulb I can see gas getting to carbs and almost getting out. But bulb does not get hard, maybe just for a couple of seconds but that’s it. I need help.

I got it to start for a couple of minutes and stop. Cannot get it to start again. Could it be carbs?
