I have a 1998 Johnson Fast Strike V-4 115 h.p and its losing power and won't run all the time. The first time I noticed it it was missing just the odd time, but now its sputters for a long time. Weirdly enough the next time, it will start no problem and idles okay and will run like a top for hours. The next time it bogs and spits and sputters. We have checked the following: fuel system- seems okay, plugs changed, carbs have been adjusted, compression is fine, timimg has been tweeked. It seems to be a puzzle. The mechanic thinks its a stator because the ohms draw seems to be a little off, but he can't be certain. The motors runs great at times and odd times it whether its hot or cold it sputters. Also, the kill switch on the boat is not working? Could this be a problem. It appears to be a different ignition key. The motor is on a 2000 superhawk Crestliner. Any thoughts on what it might be? I need help?
