I prefer a horn or light and I always check the water flow when starting and when I cruising.
Always check when cruising is a bit troublesome but it is worth it!!!

The regular thermo switch on/off I put it in a can with water and put on a stove and a thermometer.
With a VOM connected to it and check resistance you can see when it closes.
It is not an easy check but it will work, at least for me.

Can the OP ground the switch to test his overheat buzzer?
Just realized that by grounding the thermo switch to a spark plug I am really only testing the warning buzzer function, not the switch itself.....

Yes, ground the wire connected to the thermo switch and the buzzer should go off.
If not check the wiring and buzzer are okey.
To check the switch you have to heat it up.

ebay Canada has the Fram.....they also have the Fram knockoff brand GKI.....Have been using the GKI for a while, no problems.....you can get multi packs of them pretty cheap.

Still can't find these for a decent price. Most are $10 + $20 shipping to Canada.

Would these work?

I'm not sure how specific these in-line filters have to be.

It says they are for small engines....lawn mowers, small tractors, generators, etc. Hard to tell by the pics but they look pretty small.....last thing you want is a filter that would cause a fuel restriction. You have a 120HP that sucks a lot of fuel.....I posted some pics of the GKI filter (same size as the G2 pretty much) to compare with. None of these are specific to any motor, very universal.

You're right. Those look a lot bigger.

Do you know the model number on it?

I believe this is the Fram G2 as well which is pretty local to me.

What about the G3 and G12, what's the difference between those.

Sorry for all the questions, just hard to find a lot of things in Canada.

It depends on what your fuel hose size is....
GKI GF61PL is for 5/16, GKI GF69PL is 3/8, GKI GF68PL is 1/4

Fram G2 is for 5/16, G3 is for 3/8......what size fuel hose do you have?

That G2 you said is close to you will work if you have 5/16 hose......and $3.73 CAD sounds cheap.
You might try looking at your local auto parts store too....
The G12 is 5/16 also but a little bigger than the G2....couldn't find a Fram 1/4 inch model.....

Parts Manual recommends part #35-816296 which is a 5/16 Filter.

Sounds like you got 5/16 fuel hose then.....
Did you see the posts above about the thermo switch? You could try grounding the wire coming off the switch to see if you have a working buzzer or not. If not, I would fix that.....is the only warning you will get for an over heat, unless you have a temp gauge or a warning light.

I did! I will check that soon, just want to get the motor running properly first.

I believe it has something to do with the internal tank/fuel lines. It seems to run quite a bit better on an external tank. Bogs down and has no power on internal tank.

Going to check for an air leak, replace fuel/water separator and go from there.

Reread post#8.....do another compression test, spark test. Did you put in a new pump diaphragm? If the fuel hoses are old I would replace them, along with the primer bulb.....make sure the fuel vent on the permanent tank is not clogged up....insects and mud daubers can plug them up. Carbs cleaned lately?

Will do a compression test when I take it out for the year, it's in the water still.

I don't think thats the issue as it runs mostly fine on the external tank.

Will check the vent hose and see how it responds, if that doesnt work I'll change the fuel lines.

Does the primer bulb collapse when it is running? It shouldn't.
Fuel pickup in the permanent tank could be partially obstructed.

If you live in Toronto there is no need to shop online for a simple filter I think.
