I have a 1998 Evinrude 15 hp two stroke that has electric start and I can't figure out how to engage the starter. The motor has been sitting for quite a few years, it belonged to my uncle and before he passed, my dad bought it and now my dad has passed and I have it. The motor has very low hours, the the model number is E15EECR. I bought a new fuel tank and started the motor today and it ran well, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make the electric starter work. I inspected everything I can think of and there is no push button to be found. I have a known good battery hooked up and I was thinking maybe there is a way to turn the throttle to engage the starter, but no matter what I try I don't hear anything.

I know this isn't the front of the engine, but it is dark out right now. I will get a photo of the front tomorrow.

it is only complicated when you don't know. :)

glad the video helped.
Thanks again, I can't decide whether to try this motor as a kicker or just sell it. My dad gifted it to me when he passed away and I finally got around to starting it up and it runs great! Ice off just got here, and it is time to go fishing!!!!

It took me a while to find it too ! But eventually found it under the shift lever.

Smart engineering.
Wish they made all motors this hard to start.
An extra layer of protection, like when car thieves can't drive stick lol.
