1998 Evinrude 115 warm starting problem

I'm having trouble starting by Evinrude 115 after it is warmed up. If I shut it down out on the lake, it won't start back up unless I spray starting fluid into the intake.

Any help?? What should I be looking at? thanks.

Have you checked spark while its hot and not firing to rule out an ignition component failure? Also check the cranking voltage at the starter solenoid on the hot motor. More likely a fuel delivery issue due to your explanation but cant hurt to investigate.

Regarding a fuel issue, may be a sticky float, or carb overflow. When were the carbs last rebuilt? Will advancing the throttle in neutral and running it at high idle for a minute clear it up? Also stop using starter fluid, use pre mixed fuel in a spray bottle. Starter fluid has no lubrication in it.

Don't use starting fluid on you engine, can cause serious problems. Sounds like a fuel delivery problem, I am sure someone with experience on that engine will chime in and help you out.

I have a similar issue with my '98 150HPV6. I give it some throttle only and let her clear up.

Okay, thanks for the info. Did not think of the starting fluid / lube thing. Since posting this I was also told to check to see if the fuel system is loosing prime in between starts too. I thought it was flooding but now am pretty sure it was starved of fuel.
