My father left me his 1997 R80 ranger and I was in the process of giving the 175 faststrike a once over before storing for winter, and upon pulling the cowel the power head doesn't seem right, I know around 2005 he popped the head while fishing a tournament, and he replaced the power head but what if looks like is a 200 looper power head is this possible because none of the numbers match the 175.

Not possible to have a 90 degree looper powerhead inside a 60 degree 175 HP cowling.----Powerhead to exhaust housing gaskets appear to be different as well.----Any pictures ????

Hard to say what was done without pictures.-----What is maximum HP rating for the boat.-----Sounds like the entire motor was replaced.

175 is the max HP for the boat and I was just curious if the top end of a venom 200 would work on a bottom 175 fast strike, also could you take a 175 power head and bore it out to a 200. I just know that before the pop it would run mid 60's Loaded out with me and him depending on what prop he had on. Now with just me it will run high 70's and has a little more to give, it doesn't matter really, to me I just wonder what he did and I can't ask him and I'm not a machinist or mechanic he was both.

The gasket between block and exhaust housing is different.----You have a 200 HP 90 degree motor on the boat.------Are all carburetors on the front of the block ?------Are carburetors neatly in a row on both sides of the block?------Pictures make this elegantly easy to identify.----I say a 200 HP with 175 HP decals !!!
