Engine has sat in winterized condition for 2 seasons. Attempting to get her going again just making sure i'm coverig all the bases.
info: Engine is 60hp, 1997 johnson with electric/remote start
Oil injected (seemed to run rich with some blue smoke when last run)
Carb serviced season of last use
Ran well and started with no trouble before,
-first of year cold starting was sometimes difficult (took awhile)
but not to bad
Tried to start with fresh charge on battery, starter engaged normally but got nothing that resembled a fart or pop- like theirs no spark or something so...
I removed the spark plugs and they seemed oily but not too fouled/carboned, didn't smell any gas fumes from the cylinders after trying to start <--(issue?)
My first thought is to just get some new plugs, not sure how old these ones are so it can't hurt to start fresh. Spray some ether in there and the air filter and try again i guess, hopefully get something. The engine always started fine before so I never tried to tinker with it much and i'm not sure if sitting for two years would degrade the ignition system enough for me to go further than getting some new plugs and some starting fluid.
- current plugs are champion QL78YC - not sure if those are the right ones exactly or if there are better ones i should be investing in.
Quick and the Short: Motor ran fine before winterized, two years later its having some trouble starting, just want some guidance.
i have basic mechanical knowledge but i'm fairly confident that i could screw something if I'm not careful so any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
