Several years ago, my Venom decided it did not want to run at full power until it gets warmed up. During the winter it takes awhile. During the summer, 10 minutes does the trick. Once it gets to temp, it runs fine the rest of the day. Next morning, same problem.
If you have ever failed to install your drain plug, and then tried to take off, you know exactly how it feels. It will eventually get on plane, but it takes awhile. It will get to about 3000 rpm, and no higher. When it decides to run, it does it all at once. RPM increases from 3000 to 5600 in seconds. Almost like trying to take off with a drift sock attached, and then just releasing it after 5 or 10 minutes.
I changed the powerpack, and VRO, based in suggestions/directions I received from an on-line mechanic. There was no change. On my own, I decided to change the temp sensor that was associated with the SLOW system (I am out of ideas). Again, no change. I had the carbs rebuilt (not because of this problem) and again no change.
I took it to two marine repair shops. One shop charged me $96 to tell me it was running fine. The other shop told me they did not know what was wrong with it, but they were sure they could fix it for about $200.
Since it started (October 2005), it is no better or worse. I have just learned to live with it. It would, however, be nice to fix it.
