I'm new to Iboats and posted this to the general forum initially, but this looks like the more appropriate space. I have a 1997 17' Lund Pro Angler with a 60 hp Merc that has a totally rotted transom. The boat is in excellent condition except for the transom defect. Does anyone have information on what is required to replace a transom? If I am unable to determine what caused the transom to rot, is it likely to occur again? I have not had any hull problems in the 6 years I have had this boat. Any idea on what it might cost to have it repaired at a boat facility? I have read that Lund had problems in the late 90's with bad transoms. Has anybody received any assistance or financial compensation for a replacement from Lund? I am the second owner and the warranty is probably void.
Thanks
Mike

Re: 1997 17' Lund Pro Angler transom rot

The cause of your rotten transom is either exposure to the elements or you have some leaks in your transom or both. Your motor mount bolts may be leaking or some other penetrations in your transom.

If your transom is replaced correctly it'll last you a long time if you cover or garage keep your boat to reduce exposure to the elements.

It'll cost 5X+ to have it repaired somewhere else than it will to do it yourself, and if you don't take it to a reputable repair shop there's no telling what kind of job you'll get.

The good folks here at iboats will help you remove your transom and replace it doing the best job that can be done if you feel like you can do it yourself.

You should post some pictures of your rotten transom so we can analyze it.
