Re: 1996 Bayliner Capri Possible deck repair

I decided after my last post I better double check everything mechanical on the boat and Im happy to say everything is in great condition, well besides the seal that sit on top the impeller housing missing.

I know I have said this before but I hope to have carpet out and some of the deck this weekend.

Well I have everything ready to be put back together but I may have purchased the wrong resin. I have west systems 105 and 206. I coated the reinforcing piece that goes over the fuel tank but after sitting all night its still tacky. It has been below 60 here and not much warmer in the garage. Did i need to use poly resin?

Epoxy needs heat and sun to cure. Cold temps and epoxy are not a good mix. get it out in the sun or put some heat lamps on it.

From the West System website:

206 Slow Hardener? is a low-viscosity epoxy curing agent for use when extended working and cure time is needed or to provide adequate working time at higher temperatures. When combined with 105 Resin in a five-part resin to one-part hardener ratio, the cured resin/hardener mixture yields a rigid, high-strength, moisture-resistant solid with excellent bonding and coating properties. Not intended for clear coating.

Pot life at 72?F (22?C): 20 to 25 minutes
Cure to a solid state: 10 to 15 hours
Cure to maximum strength: 1 to 4 days
Minimum recommended temperature: 60?F (16?C)

The 205 fast hardener has a minimum recommended temperature of 40F (4C).
