I have a 1996 90hp Evinrude and for some time now it has been leaking where the lower unit connects to the mid section. When we replaced the impeller a year ago I noticed a rubber gasket a little bent out of shape. we put it back as best we could but was wondering what else could have caused it or do we think it could be that gasket? The lower unit oil looks fine when I changed it. Engine runs fine.

if the GC is not taking in water then you are looking at unburnt fuel/carbon mix juices

A lot of those midsection to Gearcase joints have slots to allow water to leak out.

Thanks for the responses. I figure since the gearcase is not leaking we should be good.
