I am working on a 1995 E25ELEOA 25hp motor. It has been sitting for a couple years. Took the carb apart and cleaned everything and have it running. When the motor is at an idle, the motor runs fine. If i start giving the motor some gas it will rev up for a little bit, but once it gets to a certain point it seems like it is missing. It will pop and almost shut off and will give off big puffs of white smoke. It will rev up a little ways now and then, but it begins to pop and miss. Tried new plugs, but it still does it. It acts like it is fouling out the plug, and I can't seem to get it right. What else could it be?? Thanks for the help.

You still probably have some varnish in your carb. Did you clean the carb with compressed air and a very wire?

Try squeezing the primer bulb on your fuel line. If the rpms improve, look to your fuel pump.

Did you set your carb float level when upside down?

I believe that you also have a low speed needle, how many turns out from seated is it at?

Sounds like the motor is starving for fuel...or flooded.

When it dies, remove the plugs...are they wet or dry?

The carb is completely clean from all varnish.

I didn't try squeezing the primer bulb. However, it seems that if you slowly give the motor gas it runs fine to a certain point, and then it starts to missing.

I also cleaned the fuel pump and it seemed fine.

The carb float level is set. I have tried adjusting the air/fuel screw. Turned in until the motor starts running rough, and back out 1/2 turn. Tried running the motor with the air/fuel screw at different spots and still runs fine at lower rpms, but once you give it some gas it starts popping and missing.

After you remove the plugs after the motor dies, they are black. Can't remember if they are wet or dry.

Still sounds like a carb problem.
Describe how the carb was cleaned.
Was it disassembled, soaked in solvent for 30 minutes-1 hour (depends on cleaner) and every jet and orifice blown out with compressed air?
Were new parts from a rebuild kit installed? Jets double checked by running a soft stranded wire through the main jet?
It sounds as if the slow speed circuit is working fine, but the mid and high are not working.

These symptoms can also be caused by an air leak, so check all fuel lines and connections all the way to the tank.

Also confirm that the cylinder compression is good. Should be within 10 percent of one another.
