i just picked up a 1995 Crestliner Pro-am 1750 with a 70 hp johnson. I am interested in doing some restoration, however i dont believe i would like to do a complete.

I got a very good deal on this boat, and would like to just make it look a little more appealing to potential buyers. I am considering putting new carpet in it as well as repainting the top rails of it. I am just afraid that if i pull the floor up to replace the carpet, the gloves are going to come off and i am going to do a complete restoration and get crazy with it.

i am going to add some pics, do you guys think it will be value added for me to do some stuff to this boat, or should i just let her be?

like i said, im afraid if i put too much work into it, i will be tempted to keep it.

There is a market for a restored boat. Put it this way, if you end up spending $8K on the boat (including purchase price) this thing is essentially a ready to go restored boat. A buyer looking to spend $8k might be able to find a newer boat than this however it's not going to be new enough that work won't be required on that boat in a couple years. What would $8K get you for a new Crestliner Fish Hawk? Maybe a late 90's to early 2000's boat? That's still 12 years old and if it's not been taken care of guess what, the floors going to need replacing.

I say new floors, flotation, carpet (vinyl in the cockpit, carpet on decks and storage lockers), buff the hull, and tune the engine up. If you like it, keep if for a couple years, if not I can't image you will have lost money, especially if you do everything yourself. Good luck!

If the decks are solid and not spongy in any spots, none! then carpet and spit and polish should be all that's required. Have you bounce tested the transom? Chips and Gouges in the hull? Vinyl looks like it could use some updating.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna rip the carpet off with the intentions of replacing it and see what else I get into.

Heres another question for you: what do u think it's worth with some spot shining only? You know, a sellable price, not somthing that makes me have to sit on it forever.

I'm gonna start ripping the carpet out this weekend. I will let I guys know what else I find wrong.

Thanks for the info

Well... here's a fully restored Pro-Am 180 in MN, http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/boa/3330285919.html

I think a 1750 would be priced similar if it were redone, not a huge amount of size difference. Obviously the newer motor and trailer are helping the price of the 180. As your sits now...$4500 or so would be reasonable. It might be $500 more if that motor is actually a 1995, however it looks like it might be a little older than that...late '80's perhaps?

Re: 1995 Crestliner Pro-am 150

well i finally got to mess around with the boat a little today. the transom is perfect on this thing. hard as a rock and has good color yet. Nothing seems to look questionable at all, i dont see a reason to take a core sample, unless you guys say i should. i started to buff the hull a little bit, its got some scratching and chips on it. The worst part is the top of the gunwales, do you think i should try to repaint them, or not worth it?

as of now i am thinking about stripping the decals off and replacing with an updated style, maybe even a nice dark blue colored decals and pin stripes.

all new carpet is on the list as well as a complete spit shine, tune up

one thing i have to ask is, why is NADA saying that this boat/motor combo is worth 2500 best case? it seems like this is worth much more when shopping around.. dont quite understand that part

thanks for all the info guys, will post more pics when i get deeper into her

NADA is often a little low when calculating boat values, especially with smaller boats as they are so easy to sell. Be sure to add the boat (and accessories), motor, and trailer as they all need to be added seperately. In MN your boat, as it sits, should fetch $3000-$4500. With a spit shine new carpet and vinyl your probably a solid $4500. New floor, paint, carpet, vinyl, you could end up around $6k, but at that point you would have far more into it. I should add these prices are what I would ask, not what you should expect to actually get, figure a minimum of $500 less. It's a nice boat, I like it. Would be good for someone on a bigger lake or with kids based on the deeper sides.

Re: 1995 Crestliner Pro-am 150

I have a 1995 1650 Pro Am, I also have a 70hp on it. Not a speed demon but it gets me there, decent ride and reasonably dry for passengers unless it gets pretty rough.

Out of curiosity how high is the motor mounted on the transom? You pic makes me believe its up a couple holes from sitting right on the cap.

I had to do floors and so forth in mine thread is here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=440198

Lastly if you choose to stay with the off white gray, Valspar's Ford Grey is pretty darn close, just a touch lighter.

Re: 1995 Crestliner Pro-am 150

Im working on an 1988 Crestliner nordic 17 footer. Just for referance I have all the materials bugeted out to be around 2k. The transom is good I swaped out the floor, I had a couple of small soft spots and the fuel lines were shot. Put in new bulkheads fore and aft casting decks and its getting sprayed down with Al's Liner. So far I have $1500 into the boat trailer and motor. $160 into plywood $200 into epoxy and another $175 into misc stuff. I still need the spray in liner and paint. I managed to score on the motor 1974 merc tower of power with 150 compression all the way across. Its hard to find an open bow with an outboard around here. So I know after spending a summer shopping for a boat I can sell all day long for $3500. Im working on getting the pictures hope that helps with getting an idea on costs.I found the spay in liner comparable to carpet and glue, you can use it on the top cap and as far as resale its a selling piont. It will also seal the plywood.
