I really don't know, both of the Astro's I done just had about a 1-1/2" overlapp joint, nothing like I'm seeing in your pictures. I know a couple of Astro guys that I'm going to call for ya, will let you know...hope someone that has run into this boat before chimes in here too.

I also sharpened a hacksaw blade and it was just too hard to dig out. Then I heated the blade up and that got some out by heating it and some of it turned to almost a dust but still did not hit a void above the initial 1 1/2". I may need to dig a little more that way.

Any help would certainly be appreciated. Not really thrilled at the Sawsall approach and all the repair work when going back together.

Not sure when I wll get back to it because my wife is having some real bad neck spasams. went to ER yesterdaY with it. She has a more permemt disability,MS, that has given her cognitivive probles so she needs me close by to tend her when she is on the muscle relaxants. I'm having SOME ELBOW PROBLEM also. The numbness in my little and ring finger makes me miss hit the caps key so to speed up this just bear with me when I go into caps in the middle of SETENCE (LIKE THEN). Go to an ortho doc in the morning to see if it is just the nerves thAT TRAVEL DOWN THE INNER ELBOW Or potentiLLY a bonr spur in my neck. Hope a shot will settle it down.

Just remembered I haven't tried to get acetone in to the joint to see if hat woul help by softening the glue joint. I have some seringes left over from some animal shot kits so that mightjget things to soften enough by injecting the acetone directly into the glue joint. worth a try?

Thanks cadwelder for any help you can drum up.

If I have to use the sawsall whT DO YOU THInk of the potential cut line?

Well looks like I am grounded for a few weeks. My Ortho hand specialist recomended Tuesday an operation on my left elbow to relieve the ulnar nerve impingement. Feels like I am contiouously hitting my funny bone. Really hurts the little and ring fingers all day and night. Just day surgery on June 10th and he said should be back to normal a week or two. It's hell getting old isn't it!

Still hoping someone will come up with some ideas on how to peel the aft cap off the Astro. Someway to break the glue joint or where to sawsall it.

Thanks, Jayboy

Operation completed last Sat. with no complications. Still have the pain and numbness in my little finger but the ring finger is slightly better. Anxious to get back to work but been setting new records last couple of days for heat in North Texas.

Re: 1995 Astro 2100CC Rotted

Well guys I have made a decision last week to NOT proceed with restoring the 1995 Astro 2100CC. Several reasons::)
1. Age of 76
2. Health although better than average for my age I guess my priority needs to be keeping it that way.
3. Heat in North Texas
4. Unfinished Honey-Do's, a whole bunch of those and probably will always be.
5. I want a boat NOW to go fishing NOW, not a year from now.:D
6. Growing complexity of the restore. Aft cap needing to be SawsAll and then rebuilt.

I have enjoyed following all of your adventures and maybe misadventures in some cases. I will continue to visit the forumn on a regular basis and enjoy Jay's Sea Ray videos and others.

Thanks for your interest and help.

Now to figure out how we can sell the project boat or part it out. Any thoughts on where to post on that?

Good call! I recently made that choice after I removed the cap on my 73 caravelli and just gave up on the transom and stringer job. I would keep/sell the motor (i kept mine and plan on hanging it on my new boat tomorrow! I got a free hull on craigslist.. you could give yours away as a project. If you do get a free one... beg the guy to let you take core samples of the transom!

Well as promised I did talk to an Astro guy and he was very familar with what you have. He had no esay solution and he said those were general epoxied down at all joints and the rear is all glassed too. It takes some serious cutting and replacing to remove that cap.

Of course I see I'm too late. Good luck to you.

Re: 1995 Astro 2100CC Rotted, PICS Now

Not sure how to close out a thread or if necessary. I did quit the project and bought me a 2009 Lowe 175FM boat to get back to fishing in mid July 2011. Sure nice to get back on the lakes but after 3 trips decided that nothing is worth going to the lake in 100 plus temperatures. We set a new record with I think 71 days over 100 and a bunch of individual days records. So I laid off for several weeks until we had our first cold front about 2 weeks ago. Eighties sure beats 100's. Been out 4 times in last week and half.

Hope to get the project boat, motor and new trailer sold soon. Need to write something up and get it posted soon.

I sure appreciate having the opportunity to talk to some of you guys. I enjoy following some of your projects and wish all of you well.
