Hi all,
I just did a compression test on my 1995 90hp johnson that hasnt been used in a while and I had about 125 on three of the cylinders and then 100 on the other. After doing some research on here I found out that you should do the test after letting the engine warm up for a while so I did so and the low cylinder jumped up to around 115 while the others went up into the 130s. I understand that all of the cylinders should be within 10% of one another (a range in which I am out of) but I was wondering if its somewhat okay because they are all above 100. Also, will it help if I run some ringfree through the engine since she had been sitting for a while. I understand getting into the engine might be of order but I simply dont have the time or the knowledge to start taking her apart. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Also, does anyone know if the 1995 90 johnsons had a fuel delivery alarm. I had the engine running off of a portable tank for a while that wasnt that full of gas and there was an alarm for a few seconds that shut off and never came back on. Its either that or an overheat alarm so i would like to find out get to the bottom of it. Thanks alot

Re: 1995 90hp Johnson compression numbers

do a decarb.
Decarb, take a can of seafoam put 3/4 of it in the gas tank, with only 1 gallon of premixed gas. put the rest in a spray bottle. start the engine, and let it come up to temperature. then remove plugs, and them some real good shot of seafoam into the cylinders, replace plugs, let sit 15 minutes. restart, and spray the rest of the seafoam into the carbs, so the the motor almost stalls, wait and repeat until the seafoam is gone.then take for a wide open spin. then put in new plugs, ad premixed gas to the tank, and take it for a wide open throttle spin. it is going to smoke like a house on fire, during this process.

afterwards compression.recheck

The '98 Johnny 115HP did not have the fuel restriction, therefore it is unlikely the '95 motor does. Your numbers are acceptable. Tyr the decarb and then go boating.
