New to the forums, so far lots of good stuff and pictures.
Anyhow, I am about to buy a 1994 Wellcraft Eclipse 196 bowrider. The boat is in great shape except the deck immediately around the ski locker door. The soft wood extends about 3 inches around the opening so my plan was to cut out in to the good wood and patch the deck since the rest is solid. The only thing I have not figured out is how to fix under the fiberglass in the bow. At the transition right at the windshield it goes from wood to fiberglass in the bow and the wood under the edge of the fiberglass is soft as well. How do I cut that wood out to replace it? Since it is under fiberglass should I just reinforce the area? You can't tell the wood is rotting by standing in the bow, you can only tell by reaching up under the lip where the fiberglass starts. Any ideas would be appreciated.
