Hello all I started my motor in a bucket yesterday and it seemed to run fine plenty of water coming out . I put my hand on the cylinder head and it was really hot like burnt me immediately. Why would this happen ? The water coming out was normal temp it has always been. Guessing around 100 degrees. Blockage somewhere? Where should I start pulling covers?
Force by mercury serial number OE116324
Thanks
Barnacle Bill

No thermostat. It's not your standard telltale more of a port on the mid section. It had a thermostat there but I removed years ago

OK, on a standard motor, the waterpump would be next to replace.

On a related note, do you have a poppit valve on that motor?

So now I've pulled the lower off looked at the water pump all seems fine there . Pulled the heads off all seems fine there also. Pulled the exhaust cover all seems fine there . Pulled the power head off gaskets are in tack and look fine . Beginning reassembly at a total loss . Will post pictures after dark for future reference of the fourm

Sooooo Chris1956 it turns out om a big dummy. When I got all done with everything else I decided to pull the thermo cover off and look for mud wasp plugs and in there I found that I in fact did not pull the thermo like I thought I did years ago. I left it because it was stuck open. Apparently not enoughšŸ¤¦šŸ¤¦šŸ¤¦

Shoots out wayyy more water from the port on the midsection runs at the perfect temp as well 3 seconds before I need to remove my hand. Oh well I had some stuff I wanted to check with the power head off anyway lol

Replace the thermostat and recheck. FWIW, I thought your waterpump did not look good.
