My 1993 johnson 200 is running on port cylinders only. Three starboard cylinders are dead. Checked the stator and am getting 125 volts on one wire and 117 on the other. From what I understand this should be enough. Pulled the powerpack but I am scared to just start changing parts. I heard that the neutral safety shuts down the starboard three cylinders. If I unplug it will it bypass it. I read about a diode problem with that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, that would be the shift assist switch. It kills the starboard cylinders for a split second as you shift. Look at www.shop2.evinrude.com , find your engine, then you can see the parts diagram to find that switch. Disconnecting it will be the starting point in troubleshooting. It could be as simple as the switch is out of adjustment.

If you find out that that's the problem you may want to just take that switch out. My '90 200 had the shift assist switch removed by a previous owner and it shifts perfectly well without it.

I don't know about the neutral switch dropping the starboard bank.As in any CD ignition system there are certain testing procedures and different voltage and resistance values for each model. A good manual will walk you through the testing procedures. Get yourself a good DMM and a peak voltage meter. There are diodes in the power pack that direct voltage to the primary sides of the ignition coils. But test and test again before assuming anything.Good Luck

The shift assist switch if it is stuck or bad will shut down the starboard cylinders. Follow the wires back from the switch and disconnect them and see what happens.
