The pin that holds the prop in is not a shear pin. The prop uses hardened rubber. When it is hit the hardened rubber separates from the propeller allowing it to slip. The pin that looks like a shear pin is just there to hold the propeller in place. Chances are your prop needs to be rehubbed or replaced. When a prop goes bad it usually takes quite a bit of torque to make it slip.

Can you describe this gear? The washer might have come from the top of the water tube but I dont know of any gears in the motor leg unless you are refering to the rubber impeller in the water pump. Is this gear metal or rubber?

Re: 1993 Force 50 not going into gear

Sounds like driveshaft problems Donovan. If your outboard is approx the same age as mine (1989) it probably does not have a hub mounted prop allowing slippage, but uses a OMC type shear pin thru the prop flange extension. The shear pins sometimes are a little stouter than needed, and can transmit shock up through the lower unit to the driveshaft. If you are not pumping water, it sounds like the d shaft is not turning right at the powerhead. Its possible you may have sheared the drive coupling right below the crankshaft. I know I'm not being much help with this info, but sufferers of Force outboards must comiserate. Good luck!!

OK, the gear is metal, my brother said it may be the forward or reverse gear, the washer like thing that fell out first was made of brass or appeared to be, he said some sort of coupling may have broke, what all will I need to fix this?

You are not going to know till you have it apart. You will need a service manual to identify assembly and disassembly instructions and a parts manual would be helpful. Right now you are guessing what is wrong. Without at least a service manual it is all guess work.
