Hello all,

Just bought a 1993 Excel Sx (18') Overall if seems very clean and in good condition.

I have found one issue - The lower unit will slowly drop down over a few days of sitting in the driveway. Im sure a seal is leaking somewhere, but is there a most likely culprit? No oil is leaking externally or from any hose connections.

Also - the motor is a 4 cyl (230), and I havent found much in regards to the HP rating. I beleive it is a 110 hp, but nothing I have in reference nails it for me. Is there a good source on line to find the the engine ID information.

Thanks to all who has any insights..

Welcome aboard.
This belongs in the Merc/Volvo/OMC I/O repair forum where I will move it now.

Hello there,

You probably have a leak at the pump, where the oil is bypassing. Personally I would just use a strap to keep it up. Would use one anyway when travelling, because if it drops it can do lots of damage. I have the exact same boat, but mine is a 1992. I am doing a major restore, having replaced the stringers, transom, floor. The engine is a Volvo 2.3 l, rated at 120 hp, and it may be a good idea to replace your timing belt. I also replaced the points and went to electronic iginition. Bought the Pertronix set-up for only about $100. Iboats sells them also.

Welcome to Iboats, there is a lot of great info on this site.

Have a great day,

Rob.
