OK so the guy who bought the Johnson 150 from me no longer wants it. My question is will it push my boat? And approx how fast. Boat weighs 3000 lbs without people and gear. If anyone has similar let me know.
My thought is I can use this motor til something bigger comes along . thoughts ?

That was the motor that was on there and I would image the hull will be much lighter now . It should push it ok .. Whats the plate say for max hp?
And ya prolly don't need to go this fast to your favorite fishing spot .

But if it runs like this ya won't have to jump in to pee either !

His boat is rated for 225hp max, and I think it weighed 2700lbs stock w/o motor.

The 150 will be underpowered,Wwill it push it? yea, it will also plane...it will burn more fuel, and wear out quicker, but it will "work".. prolly expect +- top, 25-30 mph top, give or take. The bluewater is Kevlar and heavier..300hp max I believe. ...Given the cost of outboard hp, I would try the 150 for a while, and just throttle back and get a bigger coffee...

Thanks zool actually 30 wouldn't be horrible That is my new plan. the motor is a 2000 model year. So I figured i'll put it on the boat and put it up for sale so people can see it run and wait til I get my number.
thanks everyone

300 hp sounds awful big on the boat. Mine is similar to yours but my rating is 225. FYI

PC110001_zps83e52cc0.jpg Ok so the original tank is 100 gal. My original plan was to make it 3" narrower so it can be removed in the future without cutting anything. My new plan is to also shorten it. I boat local on lake erie don't think I would ever need that much fuel on a outing. I am thinking about 50 gal tank . What are some opinions on this.
I would still leave the original area size the same in case I decide its not enough I could put a 100 back in.

That boat is the blue water model you said. Gotta think even on a great lake 50 gallons is plenty for most days, and couldn't you take a couple 5 gallon plastic cans for the days that it isn't?

I'm guessing you're looking at 10gph at cruising speed, that's 5hrs with a 50 gallon tank. Seems plenty to me.

ahmincha, I did that with my boat. The original tank was a 110 gallons. I reduced only the length by 2 feet so its 67 gallons now. I will never fill that up. Then I moved it all the way forward in its original space for some weight transfer forward. Gave me room for a fish cooler and anchor locker below decks. When the average price of fuel in 1972 was .52 cents a gallon it made sense having a 110 gallons on board. It was only $57.20 to fill it up. Now days it is closer to $258.50. What is that like 350% increase

ahmincha, I have never messed with Epoxy before and I am using Poly resin on my project. Does Epoxy always look so nice and clean or is that just you making it look good :first: That transom is looking very nice.

Thanks guys I just got a quote on tank with new size and it half obviously. thats pretty enticing!!!
As to the epoxy its making me look good. pretty easy to work with just a little more time consuming.
On that note my last tab on the transom did not cure everything else did except the bottom of the tab so i pulled it up wiped down with acetone and will see how it is tomorrow.

My main tank is 40 gallons and the auxiliary tank is 8 gallons,.....

Sometimes on the Great Lakes that isn't enough,......I hate having to fuel up on the water just to get back to where we started from,....
