On this boat someone has addressed this before or so it seems that it's not original. The access door is a carpeted on all but the bottom laminated side. It's a laminated piece of plywood on two sides, approximately 1/2" thick X 43 X 12. It sits in a metal aluminum frame that doesn't seem to be secured. The screws come up from underneath and screw into the door in about 16 places. The carpet is not important as it looks like all the glue is coming loose on the whole boat.

What would be the best way to address this access door? Options that are lower cost, practical and long term preferred. I have pictures but still working on figuring out the upload thing. If you need I can email them.

Re: 1992 Bayliner Capri ski compartment access door rot

Hey, I have the same problem with my '96 Capri 1750. The ski hatch looks just about in the same shape as yours. The carpet has came untucked from the aluminum frame in areas, some screws missing. The cutout is the same, 12"x43", It also has plastic top and bottom piece with the carpet glued to the top plastic.
The cheapest way I would assume would cutout to size marine plywood, seal it, recarpet, and put the frame back on. I did find a website that makes hatches, boat outfitters, but for that size the estimate is close to $300. Hope this helps, I haven't decided what I wanna do yet.
