1992 40hp wiring diagram

Can someone help me out, i bought a 40 hp force made by mercury, it unfortunately did not come with controls, so id like to make my own harness so i can test it before i spend money on controls<br />Does anyone happen to ahve a wiring diagram they can send me or can detail what each wire does for me. Many thanks, Dave<br />ALso if anyone has or knows where i can get controls for this motor relatively inexpensively, that also would be appreciated, as they are almost $500 (can).<br />Thanks

I could, but that would be illegal. <br /><br />However, it's easy to get the info you need by buying the manual, or better yet, looking it up at your local library. <br />They wont let you take the manual home, but you can copy whatever you need at 10cents per page.<br />BTW, those are great little motors.

Controls available on line, 200-300 us dollars.<br />Or used on ebay, or local boat junkyard.

Illegal?...Huh? Oh well.<br />Anyways, looked at local library, they dont have it, so i guess im stuck buying a manual, anyone have any recomemdations on which on toi buy, and where to get it.<br />Thanks, Dave

illegal, copyrighted info ??<br /><br />anyway, I recommend the CLYMER Force repair manual, has good wiring diagrams and good info, try ebay.<br /><br />Seloc manual is good for wiring, but is lacking in other areas.<br /><br />Force wiring color codes changed a couple times over the years, and on different models within the same year, thats why a manual is needed. You will need to know the model number, and possibly the serial number. <br /><br />The wire color on the motor may not match the color in the harness, and may not match the color in the controls or the ignition switch. Its a pain in the .....<br /><br />Generally:<br />red positive power<br />black ground<br />grey or purple for the tach<br />yelo/black for choke solenoid<br />red/ppl power from fuse<br />yelo/red to starter solenoid<br /><br />no garrantees<br /><br />Let us know how she runs.
