1992 20 hp starting issues

Hi..My 1992 20 hp will not stay running..My questions is does the primer system (choke) need not to be pushed in all the way?? The motor will start, but upon pushing the choke in all the way, it quits on me..When you pull the choke out it will snap back in place but not all the way..Should i leave it in this position?

Remove and clean carb,clogged jets.Its fairly simple. I went through the same issue with a 30hp i used to have.

Sounds like a idle circuit clog. Once the motor is warmed up, the
choke/primer should be pushed in all the way.
