noone has any idea how i can get the black wire back through the main harness connector?
good idea , but nope. spliced wires = bad things happen. unless its speakers i wont do that....Just splice a longer wire and bypass barrel connection
what would cause high resist on this negative wire? That ground is bad from high resistance for reason...replace all the black grounds. The round solenoid is engine starter
well with the back of solenoid and the mounting plate where it goes to is now clean. shouldnt have a problem there for a long time. i did that for all of the solenoids. cleaned the plate and back of the solenoid. if i was to disconnect the red going from starter solenoid to the tilt solenoids, could i actuallt make a new wire from the posative side to the battery? would this make the solenoids work without the engine running?Ignition plate with bad connection to block
here is the wires i am referring to on mine. looks like they goto the start solenoid? not the trim solenoid..... just one thick red from start sol to the down sol?
It comes from the battery to the starter solenoid then up to each trim solenoid. They are both hot with the key off. I don't know why you have 3 wires on the lower solenoid. I wonder what they connect to. They're much heavier too, maybe 10 gauge? Mine are about 12 and the bottom one has 2 but one is the jumper up to the top solenoidhere is the wires i am referring to on mine. looks like they goto the start solenoid? not the trim solenoid..... just one thick red from start sol to the down sol?
yes thank you . this has helped , but im still needing to get a new trim motor.... can someone point me in the direction for a canadian site ? there are so many i dont know what one to get. its for 1991 mercury 115hp 4 cyl 2 stroke. and rich, the wiring on yours is identical to mine. i dont think they changed much .....Here's a HD picture of mine. There's 4 years difference in our models so allow for that. It would be great if you can find someone with another 91
thank you. i will follow your wiring .... at least then i know its done right. lol.... going to change tommorow. thanks again for the help. as for tilt motor im going to try to remove it without having to take engine off boat as i do not have the flywheel tool nor a cherry picker....Here's a link to a video of the wires on mine. Maybe that can help too
You can find the part you need at the Mercury parts site. You need your motor's serial number to get the right part
