The main harness connector is molded. Buy a new harness

ok so here are the solenoids and wires all cleaned up. 2nd pic is of the ground wire that i took out of the plug, all i need to do is figure out a way to put it back in and through the 3rd pic. the 4th pic is the new wire attaches to the female plug socket that goes into pic 2. again i will ask for any ideas as to how im going to achieve this?

well here is the finished product. its all cleaned and the negative is back in its place. had to cut some of the rubber off to do it but i did it. and it all works as it should. except that the trim still does not work without the engine running.

Ignition plate with bad connection to block
well with the back of solenoid and the mounting plate where it goes to is now clean. shouldnt have a problem there for a long time. i did that for all of the solenoids. cleaned the plate and back of the solenoid. if i was to disconnect the red going from starter solenoid to the tilt solenoids, could i actuallt make a new wire from the posative side to the battery? would this make the solenoids work without the engine running?

well i have done all diagnostics i can and so far im not getting the tilt motor to even sing. i have hooked it straight to the battery and still no go. so i am now in for a new tilt motor. even when my engine is running its not a tilting. odd because i had it going before when i first got it. thank you for the pic of your connections. judging by yours im afraid that i have things not correct on mine. yours looks like the small wires are on with the grounds? you have 1 wire to solenoid from starter solenoid, i have 3 wires. one coming from starter solenoid. eeeesh. headaches are coming on now....

I have a Youtube video on rebuilding the power trim and tilt, but it's for the hydraulics. You must have a tilt motor problem.

On the trim solenoids, top is up, bottom is down. Each solenoid has 2 wires on right side. Top solenoid is ground over hot (tilt switch up), bottom solenoid is hot over ground (tilt switch down).

The heavy cable with red sleeve is always hot (direct from battery) on the starter solenoid, then there are jumpers to each solenoid on their left side, always hot. The heavy wire with yellow sleeve is hot when the key is turned, engaging the starter solenoid.

Not sure what you mean "small wires on with the grounds". You mean the wires on the top 2 trim solenoids? Here's a closeup of the top one, ground is on top. On the bottom solenoid the ground is on the bottom.

Here is a link to a video that may help you. It's a closeup of the wiring with my descriptions. It will be HD in about a half hour but SD is good too.

here is the wires i am referring to on mine. looks like they goto the start solenoid? not the trim solenoid..... just one thick red from start sol to the down sol?
It comes from the battery to the starter solenoid then up to each trim solenoid. They are both hot with the key off. I don't know why you have 3 wires on the lower solenoid. I wonder what they connect to. They're much heavier too, maybe 10 gauge? Mine are about 12 and the bottom one has 2 but one is the jumper up to the top solenoid

Here's a HD picture of mine. There's 4 years difference in our models so allow for that. It would be great if you can find someone with another 91

Here's a link to a video of the wires on mine. Maybe that can help too

You can find the part you need at the Mercury parts site. You need your motor's serial number to get the right part

thank you. i will follow your wiring .... at least then i know its done right. lol.... going to change tommorow. thanks again for the help. as for tilt motor im going to try to remove it without having to take engine off boat as i do not have the flywheel tool nor a cherry picker....
