I just recently received a used lower end purchased on E-Bay for my Mercury 9.9- While at the UPS store I unboxed the unit and noticed I could not rotate the drive shaft while manipulating the shifter to any position- neutral, forward or reverse. Should I be able to turn the drive shaft by hand?
I bought the used unit for the propshaft and all internal components after losing all my internals in the river last year after forgetting to install prop spacer. Without the spacer the prop spun my carrier bearing out and I lost everything in lower unit.
I'm debating whether or not to replace the whole unit or transfer the parts from the E-Bay unit to my unit. Not being able to turn the drive shaft by hand (I mean my bare hands) I have not tried to use a tool to turn it, concerns me.
Thanks in advance,
Bob
