1990 mariner 15 hp carb issue

I rebuilt the carb on my mariner 15 hp serial number OC223925 and have had issues keeping it running. It will run with choke pulled out but dies as soon as I push choke in. Searching the forums I have seen same symptoms in similar models that carb is still dirty or jet is plugged.
Is there a particular area in carb I should give the eagle eye and clean? Carb is sparkling clean and new jet installed from rebuild kit. Scratching my head and wondering where I went wrong.
Side note: carb rebuild kit comes with fuel pump rebuild kit also and rebuilt that at same time. Fuel pump is part of carb.

What other trouble shooting was done ?-----I would borrow another tank and hose for a test run.

Could be many things, did you play with the mixture screw on the carb?
