Don't have any vids or pics.....basically slide the retainer down on the driveshaft with the cupped side up, then slide the seal down onto the retainer where it seats into it. Then install the lower as usual.....tricky part is not hitting the sides and knocking the seal off before it engages. May take a few attempts to get it. Wouldn't hurt to apply some marine grease on the splines...just don't put any on the top of the driveshaft.

when I took the lower and seen the drive shaft it had no boot or keeper , but the splines looked “knicked” further inspection I looked inside and seen the rubber boot look at me just hanging out in there , but no sign or the copper ring

And someone also put RTV silicone on my seal for the control shaft , it’s a project but still kinda flustered

Have heard some folks don't even bother using the seal and retainer.....will run fine without them. If you have the parts I would use them....they are supposed to be on there. No telling where the copper ring is, may not have been installed by the PO. Might be why the seal was laying there looking at you. Or it fell off during installation.

The rubber boot and the retainer are not necessary.
Apply small amount of marine grade grease at the splines, no grease at the top of the driveshaft.
This will keep the splines out from rust, the purpose of the boot and the retainer is the same.
Pull off the LU every three or four years and add new grease at the splines.
Check the impeller in the same time.

Boot and retainer not really needed. BUT if you run in salt water it's possible the corrosion caused by the salt water can make the connection a permanent one.
