The V designation means "boat builder." Possible it could mean made for/branded for a builder, like Tracker Marine. The 88 model line was a low-cost 90 hp entry in the boat market. As such it did not have a combination regulator/rectifier (rectifier only,) nor a "VRO" type fuel pump. (keeps the cost down.) The power trim was considered an option, though many of them had it, either from the factory or dealer installed
