Jeremy,

Just went through a similar situation. I wound up keeping my 70 HP chrysler and trailer, then giving away my old hull and picking up a free one from craigslist. I just started cleaning her out today and got excited and hung my motor..

My old hull needed a new transom and stringers and I started pulling the deck/cap off an dthen it became too much work. The new hull has a SOLID transom but needs a new floor. I'm definitely happy I made this call. However, I was aware that this new one would also be a project, but it needs little fiberglass work which, from what I have gathered is expensive and my goal was to do this "free" ;)

Zopperman, My thought exactly. I have been searching craigs list everyday for a "donor boat" but I dont want to get rid of one nightmare for another. My plan is to buy a better/newer boat in the future and I just dont see the return on this project. I think I can sell the motor and trailer for a good start for something better.

Hey bud I feel for ya there...the thing is you can only check out a boat so far. My transom is solid , my deck was solid but under the deck was a mess. Foam wet and stringers wet. Who is going to let you take up the carpet and do core samples. My feeling is alot of boats have these problems. Foam Fill holes under carpet not sealedAt least that is what I am finding from reading these forums and checking out some of the boats that are for sale around here. People have the impression that there is no problems because their boat is trailered. Mine was too , But when it rains, swimmers getting aboard, covers letting water in etc. The water found it's way below deck. I know I would rather fix what I have and know what I got in the end, But it all depends on the boat and if it is actually the boat for you.. I have 1 more week of vacation time and I am putting mine back together. Good Luck on finding a good boat.
