1990 40hp Evinrude....Help please

I recently purchased a 1990 Tracker Pro Deep 16 with a 40 hp Johnson. Three weeks ago I took it out for the first time and it ran rough and wouldn't run wide open, bogged at about 2700 rpm. I shut it of and ran it without shifting into gear and it ran fine. Then I ran it again and it took right off, 5500 rpm and almost 30 mph. Took it out tonight and it would run fine without shifting into gear, but once I shifted into gear and pushed the throttle all the way couldn't get it over 2700 rpm wide open. It starts rough and doesn't idle well either. The dealer I bought it from suggested running a can of sea foam through it. Anyone else have this issue? I really wanna get this fixed before musky season opens in 2 months. Please help!

If you just bought it from a dealer, why don't you take it back and let him fix it under warranty ??

Good idea, but the dealer is 2 hours away. I forgot to mention that the bulb does not stay hard and performance does not change if I squeeze the bulb while the motor is running. I pulled the plugs and they were dry.

HELLO here's my 2 cents take it back to the dealer even if its 2 hours away . LET THEM DEAL WITH IT THEY KNOW ALL ABOUT IT----GOOD LUCK.

The 2 hours away may be cheaper than messing around with it yourself. Especially if you have any kind of warranty.

Have to concur, take it back to the dealer.

Sounds like a carb issue (duh), and the Seafoam has potential to make things worse......
