Guy has for sale a 1990 2 stroke 40 hp evinrude, says wont start after it gets warmed up, after you shut off wont start till it cools off. Is this due to bad coils???

Could be, make a dart board with all the things that can go bad and toss the dart....or see it and test, anyone check for overheat? Paint scorched?

Give it a very good look over and do compression check on it and if it’s good strike a rock bottom price for a non running motor.

if you think a coil or coils overheat you can always cool them down real fast for a qwick test. Same for any suspected heat sensitive parts .

Dollarstore keyboard spray cans held upside down will spray propellant that acts likea freeze spray. if the coils react to a fast cool down maybe that cheap motor will turn out good when the coils are replaced

A disconnected thermostat wire connector Does wonders to make a motor run well enough with no load on it.
